Mozambique’s beaches have been on my travel bucketlist for a long time and when the opportunity finally presented itself, Anvil Bay was the perfect destination to tick Mozambique off my list. It is described as a raw, barefoot, safari on the beach – and this wilderness experience truly lives up to this description.
The experience starts as soon as you enter the Maputo Special Reserve where you have a mini game drive transfer to the private lodge. Elephants, Hippo, various antelope and Giraffe can be seen as you make your way. Once at the lodge, you feel as though you are in a world of your own, pure bliss!
Canvas tents form the main areas with unspoilt views of the pristine beach paradise. The Casinhas (meaning a little home in Mozambiquan) are located just behind the dunes, tucked into the coastal forest. Made of natural materials, these offer plenty of space for you to relax and unwind.
The staff are all local, friendly and ready to assist in making this the most relaxed environment possible – making you feel like part of the family. The food and drinks are exquisite, and there are activities to suit everyone’s needs, whether you want adventure or just to laze around on the beach. Afternoons can be spent at a lake with sundowners, evenings are enjoyed around a massive bonfire with unspoilt stargazing. Anvil bay is suitable for families, honeymooners, friends travelling together, or anyone really. This is the perfect spot – definitely an experience of a lifetime…
